Aggeneys is a small community in the Northern Cape province of South Africa. The town of Aggeneys was named after Aggedap, the name of a Bushman who lived in the area. (no-one is quite certain of the origin of the name Aggeneys). Located just off the N14. Closest town is Poffader. One hundred kilometres east of Carolusberg on the Springbok Pofadder road, Aggeneys (place of water) is a copper, zinc, silver and lead mining complex. Set in an oasis, it offers a welcome round of golf.

Aggeneys the town, on a farm of that name, was founded to service the Black Mountain Mine, an underground base-metal operation nearby, currently employing over 600 permanent staff. This zinc/lead/copper/silver mine is just to the west of the town. The produce of the mine is transported by truck to the nearest railway line, located 150 km (90 mi) to the south-east along a virtually straight gravel (dirt) road. A major zinc deposit has been identified in the nearby Gamsberg inselberg, also set to be mined.

The ranges of hills, mountains and inselberg in the area display some of the most diverse and complex geology in Southern Africa including some of the richest known concentrations of copper, lead and zinc.

Most of the town’s facilities are within walking distance of each other. Facilities in the town include shopping facilities, a post office, a clinic, a pharmacy, butchery, recreational facilities, schools, a police station, etc.

The town itself consists of two sectors: The Northern Village and the Southern Village. Most of the town is decorated with green lawns and beautiful trees

Climate wise, the area is semi-desert, with arid conditions in general, but boasting some of the most beautiful and rare fauna and flora in the world.

Area: 205.68 km²
