The town lies in a narrow valley between the high granite domes of the Klein Koperberge (Small Copper Mountains). Springbok is 120 km south of the Namibian border in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa. Concordia is a Village situated in Namaqualand, 19 km northeast of Springbok. Located in the  Namaqualand District of which Springbok is the principal town.

565 km north of Cape Town. It was founded in 1862 as a copper mining centre under the name Springbokfontein, administered by a village management board from 1922 and became a municipality in 1933. Translated from Khoekhoen Guchas, ‘springbok’ (Antidorcas spp.), the name was shortened in 1911.

In the late 1870s, rich copper deposits at Okiep saw most Springbok residents following their dreams to drought-stricken claims. Many returned.

The British fort built on the hillock in the centre of town during the Anglo-Boer War was destroyed by dynamite planted by a commando led by General Jan Smuts.

The pretty town of Springbok is found in the heart of the Namaqualand . Springbok falls under the Nama Khoi Local Municipality which is a Category B municipality situated on the north-western side of the Northern Cape Province in the Namakwa District. It is one of the six municipalities that make up the district. Nama and Khoisan people occupied this area for hundreds of years. The town of Springbok is the administrative centre. Springbok is the most densely populated area, is close to the N1, and functions as the sub-regional centre for administrative, commercial and higher-order social facilities. Mining used to form the backbone of the economy, with tourism being seen as the new frontier for economic development.
