Sardinia Bay Golf Club

Set between the rolling dunes of Sardinia Bay, The Sardinia Bay Golf Club is situated at the new up and coming Sardinia Bay Golf & Wildlife Estate just on the outskirts of Port Elizabeth. Being situated on such a beautiful estate affords our patrons not only the opportunity to play golf in and amongst wildlife such as Zebra, Eland and Wildebeest but also to play in a safe and secure environment.

Originally a working dairy farm, the owner at the time envisioned an enjoyable par 3 mashie course laid out between the pastures of the farm. Many years later the farm was sold on and development started on the Sardinia Bay Golf & Wildlife Estate, with upgrades to the original mashie course starting in 2013.

As well as a newly refurbished club house, the course was lengthened by adding three holes on the north side of the club house and condensing the original nine on the south side into 6 to add more length.

The new course was then opened in August 2014 and is now a full length nine-hole golf course with affiliation to the South African Golf Association, Eastern Province Golf Union and Handicaps Network Africa.

The Belmont Golf course

The Belmont Golf course designed and built by Tyrone Yates, is situated in the Belmont Valley farming community about 7kms outside of Grahamstown.

The course boasts 18 beautiful holes of which 12 are on the western side of the Belmont Valley road and 6 on the eastern side of the road. With the Kowie River lined by decade old gigantic Oak trees meandering through the course, and the distant call of a Fish Eagle, The Belmont golf course is fast becoming known as the hidden gem of the Eastern Cape golf world.

Built on an old farm, traditional Eastern Cape bush was put to good use. There is a distinct difference between the course on the eastern side of the road which provides some panoramic views over the crop fields & dairy farms towards Grahamstown, and the western side which features the river, upper slopes of the valley and numerous Oak and other trees which provide home to over 100 different bird species including our logo The Crowned Hornbill.

The Clubhouse restaurant is a popular hangout for families. There’s a jungle gym for the kids, a practice putting green and driving range.  Grab a pizza and beer and enjoy the spectacular sunsets at The Belmont while watching the final players make their way up to the 18th green.

St Francis Bay Golf Club

St Francis Bay Golf Club is renowned country-wide for its warm hospitality and a great club spirit, which has been the essence of the club over the years, and continues to grow. For all golfers, especially those visiting the Eastern Cape in South Africa, the opportunity to visit St Francis Bay Golf Club for a couple of rounds should not be missed.

Situated in one of South Africa’s, if not the worlds, the most exclusive locations, St Francis Bay Golf Course has been fashioned on an incredible piece of estate that overlooks the ocean that the town of St Francis Bay is built up against. The club, originally a nine hole course designed by Robert Grimsdell and funded by Leighton Hulett in 1975 was for private use but has since then incurred dramatic changes and a further 9 added by Maxwell in 1999 resulted in the 18 hole it is today.

The par 71, of moderate length provides a challenge and breaking par on this “thinking” course is going to prove to be a challenge. Fail or succeed there’s always the 19th to work out just what happened! Activities in the area include swimming, surfing, windsurfing, sun-tanning, body boarding and wave skiing. There’s also an operational airfield nearby for the aviators among you as well as the Kromme River that makes for excellent fishing.

Humewood Golf Club

Found in the coastal city of Port Elizabeth, the golf course is a genuine seaside links, with wide and undulating fairways, fast greens and thick coastal bush.

A round is a must for any golfer visiting the ‘Friendly City’ of Port Elizabeth.

A Genuine Links Course
Designed and developed in 1929 by Col. Stafford Vere Hotchkin (1876 – 8 August 1953)

In 1929, Port Elizabeth Golf Club members asked course architect Colonel SV Hotchkin to design a second championship course for the town. He owned Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire, but his love for the Old Course at St Andrews inspired him to produce Humewood.

He did break away, though, from the traditional 9 holes out and 9 holes back approach and, instead, he built a course of two separate 9’s. Each 9 returns to the Club House in the middle of the course in a similar way to the Muirfield Links in Scotland. Humewood is considered his finest work!

Royal Port Alfred Golf Club

Layout – In 1923 a visitor described the course as “A monument to the origins of golf played on a South African links next to a southern sea” Not much has changed since then.

The undulating course snakes its way through thickets of pristine coastal forest and over hilly dunes always with the smell and sounds of the Indian Ocean close by whose blue waters offer the most panoramic views from many of the fairways. In true links tradition every slope, mound and dip remains untouched, demanding creative shot making and deft reading of angles.

The course is fairly short at 5739 (ladies 5025) meters and on windless days can be vulnerable. However days such as these are rare and you are more likely than not to encounter the dominant westerly or less common easterly blowing up and down the coast. On one day you will be able to hit a little wedge to the short 11th, Punch Bowl but the next you will need a one wood.
