On the R24 you will find Strydenburg, 35 km’s from Hopetown. Both these town fall under the Thembelihle Local Municipality. Strydenburg is a town in the east of the Northern Cape province in South Africa. 77 km north of Britstown, it was laid out by the Dutch Reformed Church on the farm Roodepan in 1892. On the verge of a large pan filled with salty water during the rainy years, Strydenburg (the town of strife) received its doleful name after incessant squabbling over – of all things – the town’s name! The town boasts well maintained remnants of Karoo style houses. The local guest houses and museum are fine examples of these Karoo ‘tuishuise’.
